Experience Teaching Young Language Learners

  

 My experience in semester 1 after entering college at the Universitas Kristen Indonesia. a community service program. So, I was involved in teaching at a kindergarten school. The material we teach is basic English such as the names of fruits, animals, English games and others. the beginning of teaching is awkward and nervous when teaching even though teaching children is not easy. we do not know what the background of the child. Before teaching, it is necessary to know the child's level and background. we must know that children do not accept or are not comfortable with the teaching that is carried out, it is necessary to know from their reactions when learning takes place.

Not only that, my experience teaching at that time, some of the children I taught were silent and also only followed their friends who already understood what I was teaching very well. For example, a child who already knows the English names of fruits but his friends don't know it is like a teacher trying to help those who don't know to know can be said to help him improve his English skills, for example, knowing the names of English fruits. I also don't have to focus on students who already understand but only hone memory to recognize fruit names in English.

For me, activeness in children while learning is important so that the atmosphere in the class looks good, but if the child is silent, we must know whether the child does not understand or is lazy and not interested in teaching. So my teaching experience at that time was trying to make the teaching situation better, especially for children who were less active. I complain when I ask the name of the animal in English, for example, the name of the lion in English is the first letter from l and then behind the letter n and the name of this animal has four letters. so quickly someone found out.

I think that way it can help children become active and the results can definitely go through the learning process that is still ongoing. I was teaching when it was a great advantage or a very good opportunity for me. I can understand children's reactions to teaching and it will be a good experience for the future if I teach again. from this experience can make a lesson what needs to be prepared before teaching both mentally, the material to be delivered, the level to be taught, and so on.
