Technology that can be used in teaching and learning English





At the beginning of my experience studying at the university, I usually studied face-to-face with the lecturer after that discussion and asked questions. but now I feel the process of learning English is very different, namely online classes. Thus, it must use information technology media to be able to connect with online classes. One of these technological media is such as laptops, smartphones, tabs, computers and so on.

The following is one application of the process of learning English in online classes during my experience.


Edmodo






In Edmodo, lecturers can explore in terms of assignments and quizzes that will be given to students. Edmodo also has a class discussion feature in the form of a message box. 

Here are the advantages of Edmodo;

  • Have a timeline like social media. students can interact with each other with lecturers and other students.

  • Edmodo has features for parents, so parents can also monitor student assignments. The lecturer was finally able to inform parents about the progress of students in the classroom.

Google Classroom

Google Classroom is a free web-based platform created to make learning activities easier for educators and students. Because it is web-based, this platform is automatically integrated with other Google Suite for Education services such as Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Calendar.

Features for teachers
The first functions that teachers can use in Google Classroom are creating classes, assigning assignments, and doing paperless assessments. Teachers can add material from YouTube, Google Forms surveys, and other documents on Google Drive, and conduct question and answer sessions with students. They can also invite guardians and parents to see a summary of the child's learning outcomes and possible assignments. Because it is connected via the internet, all of this can be done in real-time. So, the features in Google Classroom greatly simplify the work of teachers.

Microsoft Teams 


Microsoft Teams is a full-featured chat-based collaboration platform that can support document sharing, online meetings, and many more features that are very useful for communication in business. Having a great team space is key to being able to make creative decisions and communicate effectively with each other. This shared workspace platform makes these things easier to achieve, especially if the particular team is based in a very large company, has many remote employees, or consists of a large number of professional team members.

Microsoft Teams features

1. Chat
The Microsoft Teams app has a big focus on chat. Users can send standard GIFs, stickers, emojis and texts via private chats or group chats. The chat history for common channels remains, so you can use the channel as a summary that can quickly record how long a meeting lasts, document changes, or add new team members.

2. Audio & Video Calls
Sometimes your group chats can get too complicated, and you need to communicate in sync to make sure everyone is on the same page. The Microsoft Teams app lets you quickly switch from a group chat to an audio or video conference. With video conferencing, you get standard features like meeting notes, screen sharing, meeting recording, and instant messaging.

3. Meeting
The Meetings tab can pull your meeting schedule from Outlook and also lets you set up a new meeting schedule in the Microsoft Teams app that is also notified via Outlook. If you want to schedule another meeting with external users, you can still invite users from outside your organization by entering their email addresses when creating a new meeting in Microsoft Teams.

Zoom


Zoom is a communication application using video and can be used on a variety of devices both mobile and desktop.

This application is usually used to conduct face-to-face remotely with a large number of participants.

  • Team Chat
You can easily chat with meeting participants. You can also easily find conversation history, share files that have been integrated and the data can be stored for 10 years.
